About Us
Exceptional Learning Centre (eXL) provides excellence in Education, Speech & Language, and Behaviour Therapy to children and youth with unique learning needs. Our inter-disciplinary approach ensures that the best quality service is delivered in the most effective manner. With expertise, experience and care, each member of the eXL team works hard to provide every client with the individual attention needed to develop to his/her maximum potential.
Our History
- Founded in 1997, eXL was the result of years of planning by two professionals.
- June Ferguson, a professional businesswoman, is the mother of a child with special learning needs and has been an active member of the special needs community since her daughter’s birth in 1981.
- Lorraine Lewis is an Educator with a background in Special Education and Cognitive Development. She is firmly committed to evidence-based research and teaching. Lorraine has earned certification in the implementation of a variety of Direct Instruction programs in Eugene, Oregon. She is also a certified CPI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) trainer.
- Their commitment to honesty, quality and professionalism have resulted in eXL being the Centre of choice for Education, Speech & Language Pathology and Behaviour Therapy for hundreds of clients with unique learning needs.
Our Services
- Individual and small group support is provided in Education, Speech & Language, and Behaviour Therapy. In this inter-disciplinary environment, therapies and tutoring can be combined to best meet the specific needs of each client.
- The eXL day school provides a language-based curriculum that exceeds the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum and lays both the academic and social foundation needed for a successful High School experience and life-long success.

- eXL provides clients and their families with a team that is well-trained and experienced in assessment, programming and intervention. Supervising psychologists are available.

Our Parent Policy
- Visiting eXL: You are welcome to visit our Centre to discuss the needs of your child, inquire about our programmes and curriculum, our staff, and our services. You may walk through our halls and peek into a classroom or two to absorb the atmosphere. Due to our very strict privacy policies, as guaranteed to our families, observation of students in their learning environment is prohibited.
- We hope that potential families will understand and appreciate our protection of each student's right to learn, grow and express themselves freely in a safe and private environment.
